Corporate Counsel, Intellectual Property Litigation

San Mateo, CA (hybrid) - will require coming into office 2x a week

Join our collaborative and passionate Global Legal Team at PlayStation! As Corporate Counsel, Intellectual Property Litigation at Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE), you will be a key player on the team defending and advancing SIE’s innovative intellectual property. This role offers an exciting opportunity to litigate high-stakes intellectual property cases involving PlayStation video games and products. What You'll be Doing

  • Manage cutting-edge IP litigation, including working with outside counsel and managing litigation budgets.
  • Respond to third party subpoenas and other requests for information, documents, and/or witness testimony.
  • Strategize with leadership and business partners regarding IP litigation risks, pre-litigation disputes, and ongoing IP litigation matters.
  • Assist with developing policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Partner with colleagues in other regions, including the UK, Europe, and Asia.
  • Work closely with paralegals and support staff.

What We're Looking For

  • At least 5 years of experience as either in-house litigation counsel and/or outside counsel litigating intellectual property cases in federal and state courts, with a minimum of 3 years of experience at a law firm.
  • Current member admitted to and in good standing with a U.S. state bar.
    • California state bar membership preferred.
    • At a minimum, the candidate must be qualified for and quickly able to obtain Registered In-House Counsel status in California and be willing to maintain that status during employment.
  • Law degree from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Experience litigating intellectual property cases, including complex patent litigation matters.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute collaboratively as a team player.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills, impeccable integrity, good judgment, strong analytical skills, and a great attitude.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

In addition, this role is eligible for SIE’s top-tier benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), paid time off, wellness program and coveted employee discounts for Sony products.
