The Job Skills Enhancement Specialist is responsible for supporting individuals with disabilities in securing and maintaining competitive, integrated employment. This role involves working closely with both job seekers and employers to ensure successful job placement, training, and retention. The Job Skills Enhancement Specialist provides individualized support, coaching, and guidance to ensure that job seekers build the necessary skills for success in their chosen work environment. Additionally, the Job Skills Enhancement Specialist acts as a liaison between the employee, employer, and relevant support systems to foster long-term employment outcomes.

**: Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a federal background investigation and the ability to obtain and maintain a favorable suitability determination. This includes fingerprinting, tax compliance verification, and a review of criminal, credit, and employment history.**

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized job coaching services to help clients with disabilities or barriers to employment find and maintain competitive jobs in the community.
  • Assess clients’ skills, interests, and career goals to develop tailored job search and career development plans.
  • Assist clients with resume building, job search strategies, interview preparation, and completing job applications.
  • Coach clients on appropriate workplace behaviors, communication, time management, and problem-solving skills to ensure job success.
  • Identify potential job opportunities with employers and act as a liaison between clients and employers to facilitate job placement.
  • Support clients during the onboarding process, including job training, familiarization with job responsibilities, and workplace expectations.
  • Monitor clients' progress once employed, offering ongoing support and coaching, particularly during the initial transition period.
  • Provide advocacy and education to employers about workplace accommodations, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Conduct job analysis to identify essential tasks and potential modifications to ensure clients' success in their roles.
  • Maintain detailed records of client progress, job placements, and employer interactions, while respecting confidentiality and privacy.
  • Collaborate with vocational rehabilitation counselors, family members, and other professionals to ensure holistic support for clients.
  • Track and report on job outcomes and assist with follow-up services as required by organizational standards or funding sources.
  • Assist with annual documentation and recertification processes, leveraging close interaction with clients to support required reporting and ensuring compliance with organizational and external credentialing requirements, while maintaining sensitivity and discretion regarding confidential disability information.
  • Attend job fairs alongside recruiters and support recruitment activities by building relationships with community partners to help identify and refer qualified applicants. Provide support to the recruiter in their absence by assisting with qualifying staff for program needs.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Vocational Education, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in job coaching or vocational rehabilitation, particularly with individuals with disabilities or other barriers to employment.
  • Job Coaching Expertise: Strong experience in coaching individuals with disabilities or employment barriers for success in competitive, community-based employment.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide clear instructions, offer feedback, and interact professionally with clients and employers.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and address employment-related challenges and barriers, developing solutions that promote long-term employment success.
  • Empathy and Patience: Deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities or other barriers to employment, combined with a supportive and encouraging attitude.
  • Workplace Inclusion: Knowledge of best practices for integrating individuals with disabilities into the workforce, including providing reasonable accommodation and promoting a positive, inclusive environment.
  • Job Readiness Skills: Expertise in teaching job readiness skills such as resume writing, interviewing, and professional etiquette.
  • Time Management: Ability to balance multiple clients, track progress, and manage deadlines effectively.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work with other professionals, employers, and community resources to support clients in achieving their career goals.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with job search tools, job boards, Microsoft Office, and other career development software.
  • Valid Driver License and reliable transportation. Ability to travel to various worksites to meet with team members.
  • Scheduling flexibility. Ability to flex schedule to accommodate various work schedules to include an overnight shift.

Preferred Requirements

  • Certification in Job Coaching or Vocational Rehabilitation (e.g., CRC – Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, CPRW – Certified Professional Résumé Writer) is a plus.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with intellectual disabilities, mental health challenges, or physical disabilities.
  • Knowledge of ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and other workplace laws regarding disability inclusion and accommodations.
  • UNT-WISE credential or a comparable credentialing program is required. This may be obtained after hire, with annual recertification required. Familiarity with its structure and reporting standards is beneficial.
  • Experience with documentation and reporting processes tied to vocational or employment support programs is highly valued.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to work in both a climate, and non-climate-controlled facility.
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
  • Ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
